I always thought the stock bike was fun to ride; that's why I bought it. At the same time, I thought the rear shock was kind of jittery and losing contact with the pavement. For a while I was willing to excuse this as part of the personality of the bike, but I eventually got tired of it and bought this shock.
The first thing I noticed is that the stock part weighs a lot more than this one. I didn't weigh them, but just holding them in your hands you can feel the difference. The stock part feels like a lead weight.
I don't know whether the weight has anything to do with it, but the Ohlins shock makes the handling of the bike feel more secure and confidence-inspiring under all conditions. It is more comfortable on the freeway and more planted in the canyons. I didn't change the front fork and don't feel the need to.
This is obviously an expensive item, but it has made a huge improvement in how enjoyable the bike is to ride.
