MV Agusta Brutale 750/910 S/R Scotts/Öhlins Damper/Stabilizer Kit- All Years
(Discontinued - Replaced by MVBDPK03)
Designed and manufactured exclusively for us here in Austin Texas and made from the finest materials, clear anodized and mechanically correct, the damper is vertically aligned with the steering column's axis and on a parallel plane that does not torque the pin mounts on the tank excessively when the steering is moved from side to side. The damper is mounted on supplied handle bar clamps and not on top of your stock ones so they will mount lower than other kits that just mount on top with longer screws and an additional bracket. This reduced height is preferable to other kits that mount on top of existing clamps because the added height of the other kits transfers amplified torque stresses to the pin mounting bracket on the tank. That lower pin mounting bracket (seen in picture) can only be secured by two 5 mm screws so the less moments applied to it, the better off you are.
Utilizing hardened tower pins from Scotts, the tower pin is precision ground from 4340 chromoly to insure exact tolerances, then hard chromed to resist the elements and retain a harder surface to assist in wear prevention. Each pin comes with an adjustable delrin collar allowing the tower pin to be adjusted up or down to the perfect height. All kit components are fine cnc finished and clear anodized. This kit is complete with everything you need and will take just minutes to install. Available from us with or without damper. If you purchase just the mounting kit, you will need to have the damper with the + 5mm flat link arm, the damper short tower pin and the two M6 screws that come with it.
Rotary dampers like Scotts are preferred by many racers over the shaft styled dampers because although both have the same chances of being damaged in a crash, a damaged rotary styled damper will be less likely to render your bike unusable.
Please do your research and make an informed decision on which kit is best for you.
Damper Facts: the Scotts/Ohlins damper is a patented compact non-obtrusive, hydraulic shock absorbing unit that mounts to the steering head of your motorcycle, directly over the center line of your steer tube. Its purpose is to absorb any unwanted left to right motion in the handlebars, a phenomenon known as "Headshake" or "wobble" that is commonly found on most production motorcycles due to the increased steering angles of today's bikes. By helping to stabilize the front end of your motorcycle, the rear of the motorcycle will track straighter allowing the rest of your suspension to work the way it was designed to. In addition, the Scotts Steering Stabilizer helps eliminate that sudden thrust effect of having the handlebars pulled from your hands after unknowingly hitting sharp edged objects, pot-holes, rocks, roadway grooves and uneven pavement. Because of it's mounting location, it's easy to adjust and out of harm's way. It is the only stabilizer with 3 fully adjustable circuits, mounts in minutes in most cases and can be moved from bike to bike relatively easily. Short wheel based bikes like the Brutale will benefit from this kit. Helps control headshaking and instability when coming down from off center or unexpected wheelies.
From Scotts FAQ:
How does it work and why does every magazine say it is better than other Steering Stabilizers? This is the only Steering Stabilizer that has 3 fully adjustable circuits. It is the original damper, that can be adjusted "on the fly" as you ride. It is the only stabilizer that has a high speed circuit. It is the only damper that is infinitely adjustable so you can set it to absorb any range or size of energy impact required, and even turn it off in the case you have a flat tire, or the like. There are no other stabilizers in this category with so many features and high quality manufacturing standards, so direct comparisons are very difficult. Since we've won 16 Baja 1000 races overall and almost every other class in Baja for the last 15 years and 54 National titles, we believe our damper is in a league of it's own. This is backed by all the major magazines and the riders who have tried them all. What is a High Speed Valve Anyway? Despite what you hear from our competitors, there is an easy way to distinguish if the steering stabilizer you own OR are interested in owning, actually has a HIGH SPEED VALVE or not. First off, does it have an adjuster knob to control the high speed setting? Secondly, you simply turn off any other valves or adjusters and see if the stabilizer in question will still dampen sharp spikes. The Scotts Performance Stabilizer has a separate, completely integrated, adjustable high-speed valve. NO OTHER STABILIZER on the current market has an adjustable high-speed valve. You can adjust the high-speed valve to accommodate whatever it is you want the damper to absorb. For example, let's say you're riding a tight Enduro, where you want the damper to be on a very light setting, allowing for quick and continuous turning without having to fight the stabilizer. On a Scotts stabilizer you simply turn the Base Valve control to the softest setting that you feel is necessary for the conditions. You have now simulated a bike similar to one with no stabilizer at all. However, The HIGH SPEED VALVE, because it is a separate system on our stabilizer, will still gather in any unforeseen quick hits, such as a rock or hidden tree root in the leaves. The amount of energy absorbed, and when it reacts, is adjustable by the rider. Another example: You're a motocrosser who prefers "a no damper feeling" while in the air, but wants the advantages of the stabilizer while landing off big jumps, or in pot holes, or rough whoop sections. The Scotts Stabilizer will allow you to TURN OFF the base valve, while retaining the function of the HIGH SPEED VALVE, which achieves the scenario, explained above. The High-Speed valve is made to absorb any unwanted lateral movement that exceeds where you've set the Base Valve set. Hence, our statement; "Our stabilizer is infinitely adjustable to suit every riders choices and specific needs, no compromises!" Our competitors want you to believe they have a high-speed valve because it's expensive to design, to build and critical to the correct function of a good stabilizer. Maybe that's why no one else has one except Scotts Performance. Next time you hear the smoke and mirrors created by our competitors about having a high-speed valve, make them prove it. Chances are you'll hear some more smoke and mirrors, and no proof. The term "High Speed Valve" relates to the speed of the spike trying to jar the bars loose, it does necessarily relate to the speed the motorcycle or vehicle is traveling. You could view the high-speed valve as an added insurance policy. If the item you hit is greater than the base valve setting, the High speed valve recognizes that and absorbs the unwanted energy that has over ridden where you have the base valve. How many times have you hit something you never even saw and quickly realized how lucky you were. The high-speed valve becomes your best buddy in those instances and many times you'll catch yourself saying, "Thank you", instead of picking yourself up off the ground. So, DO YOU really need a High Speed Valve? Only if you want the stabilizer you purchased to function at it's highest level and give you what you paid for.
