Your powersports vehicle is the pinnacle of modern technology. It is made with the latest lightweight, high tech materials to be the most high performance vehicle on the road, lake, track or trail. You have modified your powersports vehicle with the best in carbon fiber, titanium, and magnesium in an effort to gain every last ounce of performance. Yet, under your seat is a heavy hunk of lead that was designed in the mid 1800’s.
Ballistic Performance Component Batteries use the latest, state of the art lithium ferrous energy storage technology available to provide you with a smaller, lighter, higher energy battery. Each Ballistic Performance Component Battery is assembled by hand in the USA using computer designed custom proprietary cells, cases, and hardware. As a result, Ballistic Performance Component Batteries will provide more energy out of a smaller package while requiring almost no regular maintenance and under most conditions a longer service life than existing lead acid batteries.

4 Cell Evo 2
The 4 Cell model is the smallest and lightest powersports battery on the market. This battery is designed for use in small displacement, up to 600cc racing applications where weight is the primary consideration. A 600cc sport bike uses a battery that weighs almost 8 pounds. The Ballistic Performance Components Battery 4 Cell EVO 2 weighs less than a pound! That’s a 7 pound saving for less than $100! You would have to spend thousands on Titanium, Carbon Fiber and Magnesium to get that kind of weight savings. The 4 Cell model can easily start a 600cc sport bike, but we recommend them only for racing applications. If you ride your 600cc sport bike on the street, we recommend the 8 Cell model. The 4 Cell EVO 2 is housed in a custom made proprietary ABS case with hard mounted brass terminals so installation is direct replacement with the stock battery.
8 Cell Evo 2
The 8 Cell EVO 2 model is our primary product. The 8 Cell model will work with most stock 650cc – 1000cc multi-cylinder motorcycles. This battery is robust, impact resistant, water resistant, and has more starting punch than 90% of all the powersports lead-acid batteries available. Most motorcycles in this range use an OEM battery that weighs up to 10.7lbs. The 8 Cell Ballistic Performance Components EVO 2 Battery weighs less than 1.4lbs. That is a weight savings of 9.3lbs doe less than $160! If your powersports vehicle has a modified motor or operates in extreme conditions then we would recommend upgrading to the 12 Cell for added durability. The 8 Cell EVO 2 is housed in a custom made proprietary ABS case with hard mounted brass terminals so installation is direct replacement with the stock battery.
12 Cell Evo 2
The 12 Cell EVO 2 model is the work horse of our line up. This is the battery you need for your built 1000cc and up four cylinder or your big cruiser. This battery puts out as much power as some of the biggest lead acid batteries on the market but weighs as much as 11lbs lighter! The stock battery on a Harley weighs 12.4lbs while the Ballistic 12 Cell weighs less than 2.5lbs. That’s a 10 lbs saving for less than $190 dollars! The 12 Cell EVO 2 is housed in a custom made proprietary ABS case with hard mounted brass terminals so installation is direct replacement with the stock battery.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT TYPE OF CELLS DO BALLISTIC PERFORMANCE COMPONENTS BATTERIES USE?
Ballistic Performance Components Batteries use our own custom designed proprietary Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) cells. These cells are different from other commercially available LiFePO4 cells with much less internal resistance designed specifically to start a powersports vehicle. The chemistry was originally discovered by John Goodenough’s research group at the University of Texas in 1996. Because of its low cost, non-toxicity, the high abundance of iron, its excellent thermal stability, safety characteristics, good electrochemical performance, and high specific capacity it is the perfect chemistry for powersports applications.
HOW ARE BALLISTIC PERFORMANCE COMPONENTS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER BATTERIES ON THE MARKET?
The Ballistic Performance Components EVO 2 battery uses custom made proprietary cells, cases, and connectors that are made specifically for the purpose of starting motorcycles. This is not a collection of commercially available generic parts wrapped in shrink wrap. This is a purpose built product designed, engineered, and assembled in the USA by an American company with over 60 years of racing and manufacturing experience.
HOW LONG WILL A BALLISTIC PERFORMANCE COMPONENT BATTERY LAST?
There are several factors that can dramatically affect the life of a battery but a Ballistic Performance Components battery should last roughly twice as long as a comparable lead acid battery operated in similar conditions and we back that up with a 3 year warranty!
DO BALLISTIC PERFORMANCE COMPONENTS BATTERIES REQUIRE A SPECIAL CHARGER?
Ballistic performance Components Batteries are very different in chemistry and construction from traditional lead acid batteries but do not require regular maintenance charging or a special charger. Ballistic Performance Components will only lose less than 10% of their total charge over a (12) month period of static use so a trickle charger is not required or recommended. They are compatible with your vehicles charging system and can be used in a ‘total loss’ racing application.
When charging a Ballistic Battery with an external charging device, the following input specifications must be adhered to:
Standard Charge: 2A @ 13.8-14.4V for 45 minutes
Maximum Charge Rate:
4 Cell (101-100) - 10A @ 13.8-14.4V for 15 minutes.
8 Cell (101-103) - 20A @ 13.8-14.4V for 15 minutes.
12 Cell (101-105) - 20A @ 13.8-14.4V for 15 minutes.
DO NOT: Do not charge a Ballistic Performance Component Battery above 14.4 Volts. This will damage the battery. Do not charge or attempt to maintain charge with a trickle charger. Do not allow the battery to be completely drained, this will damage the cells. If your powersports vehicle has a parasitic draw like an alarm of similar devices, disconnect the battery when not in use.
Failure to adhere to these charging specifications or exceeding these limits may cause battery failure and will void any potential warranty claim.
APPLE AND ORANGES
Lead acid batteries perform well in very low temperatures. They are very cheap to build and are the traditional standard. On the other hand, they are large, heavy, old technology that essentially has to be overbuilt to yield the instantaneous burst of energy required to do their job. They are also enemies of the environment, containing large amounts of lead and sulfuric acid.
Ballistic Performance Components batteries are built using modern chemistries. They are small, light, safe, and contain no elements harmful to our environment. They can provide much greater instant start energy and quite simply provide much more power per ounce. Ballistic Performance Components batteries can be fully recharged in 15 minutes or less, whereas lead acid batteries have much slower charge times. They also have the great ability to hold their charge over long periods of time with no maintenance. The current downsides are that they are more expensive and they do not function as well in cold environments.
DOES THE BALLISITC PERFORMANCE COMPONENT BATTERY WORK WELL WITH A CONSTANT DRAW?
The current product has been designed and developed as a starter battery in a powersports application. If there is a parasitic draw on your powersports vehicle (such as an alarm) we recommend that you disconnect the battery when not in use. If the battery is completely drained the cells can be damaged.
